Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded analytical psychology. His work was revolutionary in proposing that the human psyche is composed not only of an individual unconscious but also of a collective unconscious, a reservoir of inherited experiences common to all humanity. Within this concept, he identified archetypes, universal patterns and images that emerge in myths, religions, and dreams. Jung introduced fundamental terms such as introversion and extraversion, as well as the process of individuation, which describes the development of the totality of the self through the integration of conscious and unconscious elements. His initial collaboration with Sigmund Freud was crucial, but the rupture between them in 1913 marked the birth of his distinctive approach, which valued spirituality, mythology, and alchemy as keys to understanding the human mind. His influence extends beyond the clinic, profoundly impacting contemporary anthropology, literature, and religious studies.
